Five Firms Clear the First Review for Vietnam's Pilot Crypto-Exchange Licenses
To Tran Hoa, deputy standing head of the Digital Asset Trading Market Board under Vietnam's State Securities Commission, disclosed at the Vietnam RWA Summit 2026 that five companies have passed the initial assessment stage for licenses to operate the country's first regulated crypto exchanges. The commission did not name the five applicants, and clearing this stage does not authorize any firm to begin operations — a further review against technical, custody and compliance requirements still stands between them and a license.
Applicants must next show at least 10 trillion Vietnamese dong (roughly $383 million) in contributed charter capital, with institutional shareholders — banks, securities firms, insurers, fund managers or technology companies — providing at least 65% of that capital. Separately, Decree No. 284/2026/ND-CP takes effect September 1, introducing fines of 180–200 million dong for unlicensed exchange operation or advertising, with power to order the removal of offending websites and trading systems; a six-month grace period for domestic traders using offshore platforms only begins once the Ministry of Finance issues its first license.
CP Group, True and AWS Sign a Five-Year Pact to Push AI and Cloud Skills to 3 Million Thais
Charoen Pokphand Group, True Corporation, major True shareholder Arise Ventures Group, and Amazon Web Services announced a five-year collaboration at CP Group's "Thailand AI National Mission" event in Bangkok on August 26. The centrepiece is a workforce target: equipping up to three million people across Thailand, including CP Group's own employees, with cloud and AI skills through training programmes, certifications and applied projects, building on AWS training that has already reached more than 120,000 people in the country since 2017.
The agreement also covers concrete operational deployments. True Corporation will migrate to an AWS-based cloud operating model and use the infrastructure for predictive network maintenance, while exploring Amazon's Leo satellite broadband for underserved areas. Ascend Money, CP Group's fintech arm, is deploying AI-driven credit scoring on AWS aimed at underbanked customers, and CP Group's retail network — 7-Eleven, Lotus's and Makro — is scaling an AI centre of excellence using Amazon Q for inventory forecasting.
Southeast Asia's Data-Centre Operators Have Raised $11.5 Billion in Equity, 85% of It Since 2024
Tracxn data cited by TechNode Global shows Southeast Asia's data-centre companies have raised a combined $11.5 billion in disclosed equity funding across 19 rounds since the sector's inception, with $9.78 billion of that — 85% — arriving since the start of 2024. Annual totals show the acceleration: $1.68 billion across 2020–2023 combined, versus $3.2 billion in 2024, $1.9 billion in 2025, and $4.7 billion already in 2026 year-to-date.
Singapore-headquartered firms dominate the ranking. DayOne leads with $6.4 billion raised — more than half the regional total, anchored by a $4.5 billion Series C this year — followed by Princeton Digital Group at $2.2 billion, ST Telemedia GDC at $1.3 billion, Nxera at $806 million and Digital Edge at $640 million. Other large single rounds include a $1.3 billion KKR–Singtel stake in ST Telemedia GDC (2024) and a $1.3 billion Stonepeak preferred-equity investment (2025).
Eyes on the Days Ahead
No single regulatory deadline falls in the next 24–48 hours, so pivoting slightly further out: Vietnam's Decree 284 penalty regime for unlicensed crypto operators takes effect September 1, and Thailand's SEC continues taking public comment on its draft spot Bitcoin and Ether ETF rules through September 20 — both are concrete dates worth tracking against this week's coverage.
