CoreWeave Picks Indonesia for Its First Data Centres Outside the US and Europe
CoreWeave announced on August 4 that it will build three data centre facilities in Indonesia totaling 360 megawatts of contracted IT power — its first data centre presence in Asia-Pacific and its first outside the US and Europe. CoreWeave will own and operate all three sites, which are expected to come online in 2028. "CoreWeave goes where we can bring AI pioneers the capacity, performance, and reliability they need to build and scale," said Chief Operating Officer Sachin Jain.
The commitment is sizeable relative to CoreWeave's existing footprint: as of March 31, the company operated 49 data centres globally with more than 1 gigawatt of active power and over 3.5 gigawatts of contracted power, meaning Indonesia's 360MW represents roughly a tenth of its total contracted capacity concentrated in a single new market. CoreWeave said it plans to build and train a local operations team as part of the expansion, alongside investment in local technical talent.
Huawei Rolls Out AI-Ready Power and Cooling Hardware for Malaysia's Data-Centre Build-Out
At the Huawei Next-Gen Data Center Infrastructure Summit 2026 in Johor Bahru on July 31, Huawei unveiled four AI data-centre infrastructure products aimed at the Malaysian market: the PowerPOD 5.0 prefabricated power system, which the company says cuts power-infrastructure delivery time from 60 days to two weeks; the UPS5000-H-800k high-density power protection unit; the SmartLi 5.0 modular energy-storage system; and a Thermal Management Unit cooling system. "The rapid growth of AI workloads is transforming traditional data centers into AI data centers, requiring higher rack power densities," said Chong Chern Peng, Executive Vice President of Huawei Digital Power at Huawei Malaysia.
Invest Johor CEO Natazha bin Hariss used the same summit to lay out six pillars the agency says position Johor as Malaysia's leading AI data-centre location: reliable power, water security, high-speed connectivity, sustainability standards, talent availability and access to advanced technology. The event drew representatives from NTT Global Data Centers, Tenaga Nasional, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation and other regional infrastructure players.
BPI Marks 175 Years by Committing to a First Agentic-AI Use Case: Auto Loans
At an August 3 media briefing marking its 175th anniversary, Bank of the Philippine Islands president and CEO TG Limcaoco said the bank is developing an agentic AI system to handle its auto-loan process, with plans to extend the approach to credit cards, personal loans, housing loans and business loans if the pilot proves out. Agentic systems are designed to complete multistep tasks and make limited decisions with less human intervention than BPI's existing generative-AI tool, BEAi, which frontline staff have used for close to two years to retrieve product and policy information.
BPI is separately testing AI in its call centre to make agent responses more consistent, and building an internal system Limcaoco described as a "BPI brain" — designed to learn from the bank's own processes and assist employees in decision-making. "Technology can never replace trust," Limcaoco said, framing automation as a complement to service quality rather than a substitute for it.
Eyes on the Day Ahead
Nothing on the regulatory calendar closes in the next few days, so the next dated item worth tracking sits slightly further out: Conviction 2026, Vietnam's largest digital-asset and AI forum of the year, convenes in Ho Chi Minh City on August 14-15 and is the most likely venue for the State Securities Commission or Ministry of Finance to give a further update on the five shortlisted crypto-exchange licensees ahead of the planned Q3 pilot-market launch.
